Walton Candidate Forum--Gareth Rhodes, CD19
Good news for democracy!
We have 7 Democratic candidates running in the Congressional District 19 Democratic Primary!
AND we have 2 Democratic candidates running against Bonacic, State Senate District 42, in a primary election coming in September!
AND we have 2 Democratic candidates running for Judge in the NY 6th Judicial District in that same September primary!
AND we have 2 Democratic candidates running for Governor, same September primary.
AND Kirsten Gillibrand is running for re-election! How to get to know them all?!
The Walton Democratic Committee has arranged for a series of Walton Candidate Forums for us Dem's in Walton and surrounding towns to spend most every Friday afternoon from now until at least the June 26th primary election getting to know our candidates, shake their hand, ask them the tough questions, share our stories, face to face, and one by one!
You and yours are invited to meet our first guest, Gareth Rhodes. This will be a great opportunity to get to know Gareth better, and hear about his plans to win the seat.
Rep. John Faso was rated one of the most vulnerable GOP members in the nation “if Democrats nominate a candidate with district roots” in NY-19. A New York Times report noted Gareth’s “roots in the region are beyond dispute.” Gareth’s local ties, progressive values, combined with real government experience, make him a compelling candidate to give Democrats a chance of winning NY-19. He has received strong local and statewide support in the race including, endorsements from Kingston Democratic Chair Joe Donaldson, Brunswick Democratic Chair Kathy Betzinger and Ulster County Legislature Minority Leader Hector Rodriguez, and others.
If you can't make it, you can lend your support by donating or inviting friends, or by writing a check made payable to "Gareth Rhodes for Congress" and mailing to: P.O. Box 3324, Kingston, NY 12402.
Background on the NY 19th
Democrats maintain a slight enrollment advantage over Republicans, and the Cook Political Report has recently rated the seat a “toss-up.” The past few cycles in NY-19 have made it clear that Democrats need a truly local candidate to win. Gareth is that local candidate. A New York Times report noted Gareth’s “roots in the region are beyond dispute,” and he has the type of upbringing and shared values, combined with real government experience, that we believe make him a compelling candidate to give Democrats a chance of winning NY-19.
Background on Gareth
Gareth was born and raised working on a farm in rural Ulster County. Upon graduating from Kingston High School, he worked for a water-well drilling business in the Hudson Valley and served as a volunteer firefighter. After becoming the first in his family to graduate from college, he worked for the Governor's office before attending Harvard Law School. Gareth is running a grassroots campaign, traveling to all 163 towns in the district in a 1999 Winnebago. You can read this story about a recent stop in Catskill, and this story about his local approach. His campaign has been singled out in stories in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times and Washington Post regarding Democrats efforts to Take Back the House in 2018, and he continues to earn local media coverage. He has also earned strong support from state and national leaders.
